I'm pretty excited about this, as 'The Shining' is one of my favorite books. In 'Doctor Sleep,' main character Dan Torrance is an adult that is tormented by his past (especially his father). He drifts around throughout his adult life before finally settling in New Hampshire, where he finds work at a nursing home, using his "shining" powers to help the patients. But there is a great evil scouring the land! A polyester-wearing, RV-driving tribe of old folk called The True Knot that sustain their immortality by torturing those who possess the "shining" powers.
This is a story of good vs. evil, an archetype that King is quite experienced in, so there is little doubt that he can pull it off well, and that his new novel will be packed with thrills and suspense. That being said, the plot seems to be a little on the corny side, but I'm sure I will scold myself for saying so after I read the book.
